Basics of contraception

This three-day introductory course is for professionals who wish to gain an understanding of contraception as well as the skills needed to communicate about it.

The course provides in depth, non-clinical information about all forms of contraception and is particularly useful for youth workers, Connexions staff, outreach workers, and any nurses, midwives and health visitors who are not trained in contraceptive methods.

Aim: The purpose of this course is to provide practitioners with the ability to support clients to make informed choices about contraception.

Learning outcomes:

• Gain a basic understanding of current contraceptive methods.

• Understand the factors that influence contraceptive choices.

• Understand what resources are required to support practice.

• Communicate with clients about contraceptive choices in a supportive, non-judgemental way.
