  • <17 - moderate to severe chronic protein-energy malnutrition (severe if <15)
  • 17-20 - chronic protein energy malnutrition but some normal subjects
  • 20-25 - desirable (some authorities 19-25)
  • 25-30 - mildly overweight (grade I obesity)
  • 30-40 - grade II obesity
  • >40 - grade III obesity
