Nurses question whether electronic patient record can be delivered

It found 66 per cent welcome the introduction of an electronic patient record, although there is uncertainty about the impact the record will have on patient care, safety and confidentiality.

Only half the nurses surveyed believe electronic records will improve safety, while 30 per cent feel the security of the system will not be any better than paper records currently in use.

Two-thirds have not been consulted about the introduction of the new record or what would be included on it.

The survey involved 2,600 nurses.
