Personal care budgets 'not solution for all'

Personal care budgets are not a solution for all older people, according to charity Help The Aged.

Its report Personalisation in Social Care: Progress in the UK and abroad says personal care budgets will be crucial to government proposals for any new system giving more control to people but are not an answer for everyone.

Help The Aged argues that other European countries have sought to tackle the problems caused by an ageing population and found more financial investment was key.

Elizabeth Feltoe, Help The Aged’s senior social care policy officer, said: ‘Increases in our ageing population will leave the current system in England with a more than £6 billion budget gap in 20 years’ time. We need to see dramatic reform and an immediate investment of at least £1-2 billion to make sure the current system is fit for purpose now.’
