Hacker threat forces DoH to close appraisal site

The NHS Appraisal Toolkit website will be offline for three weeks after a routine security check discovered the system could be compromised by intruders.

DoH said the website, established nine years ago, was ‘not sufficiently robust to withstand modern day hacking'.

Ministers instructed the website to be taken offline until supplier SCHIN is able to address the problem. The DoH said there was no evidence of a security breach or loss of data.

The department acknowledged that many of the website's 27,000 users were scheduled to undertake annual appraisals during this period. But it said it was necessary to address the security risk in the face of concerns, which were shared by the BMA and RCGP.

How frustrating if you are a toolkit user!

I am and it is.

Are there any forward thinkers around in these organisations ?- surely there are clauses in contracts of such organisations which state that future proof updates are an essential part of it. Still we could use the toolkit at night and in bad weather -- unlike the Chinook helicopters!

Forward thinking? Please be serious! This is the NHS - a low-trust organisation where the only criteria for success are meaningless bean-counting, squandering prescious resources on white elephants \(eg NPfIT) and making economies by downsizing frontline staff rather than paper-shufflers!

If we close one site because it leaks information then.

Maybe we need to close all of the National Health sites?.

Every one I checked was Vulnerable.

I'm a test manager (system tester)  by trade and all of those sites would never have made it past on any of my teams.
