BMA and DoH back abortion ruling

The DoH and the BMA have backed a High Court ruling on Monday that will retain confidentiality for girls under 16 who seek an abortion. Sue Axon, from Baguley in Manchester, challenged the DoH's guidance for providing confidential abortion services to children.
Dr Vivienne Nathanson, the BMA's head of science and ethics, said: 'If young people do not feel they can talk to their parents or another adult, then their decisions should normally be respected and they should have access to impartial and confidential medical advice.'
