Levels of 13 biomarkers were measured in 1,189 people aged 70 to 79 years and compared with mortality risk over the subsequent 12 years.
Measures of CRP, IL-6, fibrinogen, adrenaline and noradrenaline were all found to be important predictors of mortality among men.
Among women, high systolic BP was a strong indicator, along with CRP, IL-6 and HbA1c.
