General practices congratulated for high quality service

28-Sep-06

General practice
Health Minister Lord Warner congratulated GPs and practice staff following the publication of the latest quality and outcomes framework (QoF) results.
The QoF figures have shown that the majority of patients are receiving a high standard of care and treatment from their local practice. Each practice on average achieved 96 per cent of the points available; 1011 out of a possible 1050.

This achievement equates to an average of £125,900 for each practice. Much of this money will be re-invested into NHS GP services such as extra practice nurses.

Lord Warner said: ‘Practices are getting paid more because GPs and their staff are working harder and smarter. We should remember that the extra advice and support offered to patients on prevention will save people from potential life-threatening conditions and will reduce demands for emergency hospital care.’

Dr Barbara Hakin, Chair of NHS Employers’ General Medical Services negotiating team said: ‘We are really encouraged to see a continued improvement this year in the care that patients receive from their GP. The date should help practices to identify how they can continue to improve and tailor the services they provide to their patients locally.’
