First aid gel may be used to stop bleeding

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology hope that they have found a simple method of instantly stopping bleeding in the form of a clear gel, dispensed from a tube.
Currently the gel has only been testing in animal models, but the researchers hope that it can be used for simple cuts and grazes by the public, but also during surgery.
Once applied, the gel stops the bleeding within 15 minutes. The researchers are unsure how the gel is working, but they do not think this is a result of clotting as this process only takes about one to two minutes.
The researchers believe that the gel has a lot of promise, but further experimental studies are required before it can be tested on humans.
