The JCVI is meeting to discuss whether to implement a vaccination campaign using the HPV vaccine, which could cut cases of cervical cancer by 70 per cent.
Charles Lacey, who sits on the HPV advisory panel of the JCVI, was reported as saying the programme was likely to start this autumn, with full roll-out in September 2008.
The target range for the vaccine programme is expected to be 12- to 16-year-old girls.
