This new arrangement replaces the traditional system of supplying medicines indirectly through wholesaler intermediaries.
The change follows the decision by AstraZeneca to undertake a detailed review of how its medicines reach patients in the UK, to simplify and modernise the existing supply arrangements, which have been largely unchanged for many years.
The new supply and delivery service will be implemented in late summer.
The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committe have said that they wish to meet AstraZeneca at the earliest opportunity.
