Hewitt increases pressure on GPs over access

18-Jun-07

Health secretary Patricia Hewitt
Health secretary Patricia Hewitt has warned that GPs could lose out on pay if they do not listen to their patients and extend practice opening hours.

In an interview with the BBC News website, Ms Hewitt announced that the Government will soon be publishing the results of an £11 million survey which questioned more than 2 million patients. She said that the survey results showed that there was increasing dissatisfaction over access to GPs.

Ms Hewitt told the BBC: 'What has been clear for the last year or so is that although the great majority of patients are very happy with their GP and happy with being able to get access to their GP practice, there is a significant minority who are not happy.'
