Darzi review costs £1.2 million

15-Oct-07

Professor Sir Ara Darzi
The cost of the controversial Darzi review is £1.2 million, according to health minister Ann Keen.

In a written statement to the House of Commons, Ms Keen said the NHS Next Stage Review was core business for the NHS and as such involved no additional cost to the taxpayer.

However, she added: ‘The total departmental spend so far on staff, patients and public engagement in direct connection with the review is £1.2 million.’

The Darzi review proposed that more than half of GP practices open extended hours.
It is also likely to further threaten the future of the MPIG.

The final review will be published in June 2008.

The government did not want to know the true facts about GP or they would have utilized a GP as to how best to approach their problems. Neither is it evident if Darzi sought information from GPs and if he did if what the information was and what action he took on account of it. The government clearly did not want accurate information and are using Darzi's position as a Peer of their creation ( appointed to review in June and lorded in July!! ) and a consultant surgeon who clearly knows best how to manage GP and Gps!
