Fewer patients recall being offered choice

22-Oct-07

The number of patients who recalled being offered a choice of hospital for outpatient services has fallen, DoH figures show.
For the first time since the survey began in May 2006, the DoH patient choice survey has shown a decline in the number of people reporting choice.

The latest MORI poll of 75,000 people was carried out in May this year and shows just 44 per cent recall being offered choice.

This compares with 48 per cent in March this year. However, the latest figures still show more patients recall being offered choice now than they did in May 2006, when just 30 per cent said they had been offered a choice of hospital for their first outpatient appointment.

Of those who recalled being offered choice, 79 per cent were happy with the process and just 5 per cent dissatisfied. These figures are similar to those found in March.
