The DoH dropped plans for a national CVD screening programme in June.
Earlier this month, London GP Dr Sarah Jarvis, a representative of the cholesterol charity Heart UK, met Commons Health Select Committee chairman Kevin Barron MP to explain why primary prevention screening should be in the framework. The committee is taking evidence in quality framework changes.
'It is having various meetings to inform it in its decision-making process,' Dr Jarvis told GP.
Heart UK wants the framework to give GPs points for screening over-40s for cardiovascular risk, as recommended in the Joint British Societies (JBS2) guidance.
Dr Jarvis said it was important that the committee understood 'that GPs are in the best place to do primary prevention screening and that it has to be in the quality framework'.
'We're confident there is a sound clinical base,' she said.

I wonder when both clinicians and politicians will stop medling with QOF.yet again the tick box excercise is dominating the issue.we know that the least vulnerable or at risk patients will turn up for the robitisation of their health. The 'needy' that need to be target will again be disadvantaged. I can see 2 tier health belief models sprouting, one of the well worried and the other left to their own devises as they are the least likely to use the facility of screening. I wonder when the politicaians it will tigg to nanny the needy population, may be link their benefits to CVD screening!!! and that will be something.
