Three-quarters of practices believe polyclinics signal end of family doctors

28-Jan-08

Lord Darzi
Three-quarters of practices believe polyclinics mean the end of family doctors, according to a poll by the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC).

The majority of the 135 practices that took part thought that general practice, as it currently operates, was facing its demise. Respondents compared the future of family medicine with the current state of NHS dentistry.

Health minister Lord Ara Darzi advocates the introduction of 150 large, GP-led super surgeries in England. Mike Ramsden, NAPC chief executive, said: ‘The comparison with the demise of NHS dental services is concerning and has considerable weight.’
