LMCs told about Scottish government 'failure'

24-Apr-08

Dr Dean Marshall
The SNP Scottish Executive has failed to deliver Scottish solutions to Scottish heath problems, according to Dr Dean Marshall, GPC Scotland chairman.

Speaking at today's Scottish LMCs conference in Clydebank, Dr Marshall criticised the Executive for following Westminster's line on extended hours. He said the policy was designed to fit the needs of south-east England, not Scotland.

‘The SNP government has lacked the confidence or will to extract itself from the political agenda which is driving health policy in England,' he said.

‘If this is an example of doing things differently in Scotland and working with the profession then I fear for the future of NHS general practice in Scotland.'

Dr Marshall also said he would not accept attempts to erode the MPIG, on which Scottish practices heavily rely, without a fight.
