How wonderful to read of GPs really standing up to the government, Darzi included.

Whilst I have no doubt that Lord Darzi is extremely skilled in his own field, it has always seemed that the government had a hidden agenda in choosing someone with no experience of primary care to drive through its changes. It is now clear that the appointment was made in order to ensure compliance with government wishes.

That his Lordship had no experience of primary care became obvious when, on his website, Darzi wrote on Jan 30th 2008,

“When a clinician sees a patient it can be something of a one way conversation, with the clinician simply talking about a diagnosis or treatment”.

This is why I had such a fantastic day at the deliberative event in Nottingham last week. To sit down with members of the public and have a two-way discussion about the NHS was an interesting and invaluable exercise."

If my GP started a monologue when I consult him, I would walk out.

This man has not for one moment spoken out against the government's attack on GPs and the call for his resignation is both timely and well-judged. Keep up the pressure.

I totally agree. The profession is a soft target as any action by GPs will undoubtedly affect our patients.

This government has no concept of what the value of a good GP is.

Darzi should never have been appointed. I my drains were blocked I might call for Darzi but I can see no other use for this man's imvolvement is primary care planning. Resign and take Gordon with you!

Lindy is so lucky with her GP. I've had 12 GPs what with moving around a little and only one has ever been interested in anything I've said or wheezed. The rest was a one way conversation.

A good GP is fantastic, but unfortunately seems to be not too common in my neck of the woods.

anyway I don't understand why the polyclinic model is seen as an attack on GPs. It's very rare that a person can see the GP they want when they want in a multi partner practice.

Apart from being a shopkeepers fancy the concept of Polyclinics has clearly failed. A lot of money will be diverted away from primary care and wasted on an effort to run these polyclinics.

I support the notion that his Lordship should resign.

Lord Darzi, stick to what you were trained for within the remit of tertiary care. On behalf of all grass roots GP's in the UK I can say, "YOU ARE NOT WANTED-YOUR MEDDLING IN PRIMARY CARE WILL DESTROY THE NHS AND PUT PATIENTS AT RISK-YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN GORDON BROWN'S POLITICAL PUPPET-YOUR POLITICAL AGENDA IS IN DIRECT CONFLICT WITH THE GMC's DUTIES OF A DOCTOR AS YOU OBVIOULSY ARE NOT PUTTING THE CONCERN'S OF THE PATIENT'S NEEDS AS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY".
