The challenge follows revelations of ‘gross underrepresentation' in LMCs and growing workplace discrimination. At the same time, LMCs are being challenged to engage more imaginatively and creatively with female constituents.
Londonwide LMCs has uncovered an ‘alarming' gap, with women GPs making up 44 per cent of the city's workforce but just a quarter of its LMC members.
‘In some LMCs, women are barely represented; in others inadequately,' Leading with Diversity, a review from Londonwide LMCs reports.
Dr Anouska Hari, a sessional GP and vice chair of Westminster LMC, said positive discrimination is needed.
‘LMCs need to allocate protected time to issues relevant to women and have meetings at different times of day,' she said.
