‘We believe we've had a real impact on the paper,' he told today's LMCs conference.
‘When it started back in October, general practice was seen to be a problem. But evidence from healthcare around the world has shown that the NHS works because of general practice, not in spite of it,' said Dr Field.
His words had little impact on his audience, however.
The conference overwhelmingly backed motions that it had no confidence in Lord Darzi, his review, or his independence from a ‘predetermined outcome'.

The RCGP may well have had an impact on Darzi's paper, but the question then arises as to what on earth it would have been like without that. Furthermore with the catalogue of attacks on GPs over the past months, the contradictory statements coming from the DoH and Lord Darzi, it is hard to see how any of this can benefit either GPs and their teams or patients. Ultimately the beneficiaries will be multi -national conglomerates such as United Healthcare, Virgin and Humana.
