Londonwide LMCs: London polyclinic plan 'to be approved today'

12-Jun-08

Londonwide LMC delegates delivered a stark message to this year's LMCs conference, warning that London's polyclinic plans were due to be approved this afternoon.

Dr Tony Stanton, Londonwide LMCs, told delegates that the Joint Committee for London was due to meet this afternoon and he predicted they would officially approve plans for 150 polyclinics in London and end Lord Darzi's review in London. ‘We must not relax,' he added.

Dr Steven Amiel, from Camden LMC, said that Camden PCT had already gone over to the ‘dark side', with GP surgeries being taken over by private companies.

‘Look at Camden and see your own future!' he said, and warned that two out of three pilots in Camden involved ‘two or three GP surgeries in the basement of a general hospital'.

Delegates from around the country described their own PCTs' plans for new health centres before a motion was unanimously passed condemning the imposition of ‘Darzi centres' across England and their lack of evidence.
