LMC claims no consultation on new polyclinic

Worcestershire LMC claims that there has been no consultation on a £1.2 million polyclinic being built in Worcester city centre.
Last week health minister Lord Ara Darzi pledged that such schemes would only go ahead with public backing. As adverts to run the polyclinics are published this month, Worcester LMC said the scheme has still not received any public support.
Last month GPs from Worcestershire LMC presented a 4,000-signature petition against polyclinic plans to Downing Street.
Dr Simon Parkinson, secretary of Worcester LMC, said the consultation, planned to commence after the tender has been won, was ‘nonsense'.
‘If this is what Darzi considers to be a proper consultation, then the whole thing is a sham. One minute our Labour MP congratulates us and says we are over-doctored.
Then they just say ‘you are going to have a GP-led health centre'.
‘Clinicians have said we don't need this,' he added.
Dr Parkinson said three local GP practices would have to compete with the new centre, which could be in a Boots pharmacy or on the Worcester Royal Hospital site.

Certainly no surprise. I hope this LMC will go for judicial review. My understanding is that PCTs have a statuory duty to consult publicly (though Ii fear these exercises are always a sham and end up putting money into the pockets of shareholders of the 'consultancy' firms that run them), before making any major changes in any area.
