Nearly half of all postmenopausal women seek alternative therapies to HRT, despite admitting to not knowing enough about them, a UK survey has revealed.
Only 20 per cent of surveyed postmenopausal women reported discussing sexual health issues with their GP.
A survey by the Royal Society of Medicine assessed more than 1,000 responses from women on the risks of HRT, use of alternative therapies and sexual health.
According to the survey, 40 per cent of women had used alternative menopause treatments rather than HRT, even though 85 per cent of them said that they did not know enough about the alternative therapies.
A third of respondents said that they thought HRT risks had been exaggerated by the media.
