The GMC plans to abolish the exemption from the Annual Retention Fee (ARF) for doctors aged over 65. This would mean paying a fee of £390.
The BMA is currently applying for a judicial review in October to prevent the changes from going ahead. It is advising GPs over 65 to wait until after the review to decide whether to pay the fee.
A BMA spokesman said: ‘The BMA regrets that we have been forced to pursue this course of action, but we feel it is necessary to do so on behalf of the thousands of retired doctors who have given many years of service to the NHS.’

Thanks for BMA to take this issue for judicial review.
It is unfortunate that facilities are provided for senior citizen in this country but GMC thinks otreway round.

The GMC considers exemption of ARF as age discrimnation.Could the Governmment be considered guilty of age discrimnation as it provides certain facilities and benefits to Senior Citizens ,I wonder.
