NMC to set standards on nurse prescribing

28-Feb-05

The NMC will set standards for nurse prescribing, the body's professional officer Liz Plastow has revealed, and these are likely to be introduced in the next two years.

The NMC was already starting to receive allegations of misconduct against nurse prescribers, she said.

Ms Plastow explained: 'We cannot modernise the health service without nurse prescribing and to move forwards the NMC has to address this change. Nurse prescribing is moving at such a fast pace and we need standards.

'Without wanting to frighten people, it is important that the NMC acknowledges the need for prescribing standards.'
