Practice nurses are not paid enough

02-Jun-08

I feel strongly about how practice nurses are treated and paid. I have been working as a practice nurse since 2000 and have obtained a diploma in asthma, COPD and the Warwick diabetes certificate.

I initiate insulin and run nurse-led clinics, along with delivering travel immunisations and health promotion.

I am paid £14.58 an hour and think this is disgusting - a cleaner can earn £10 an hour. We need to be represented and ensure our voices are heard before there is a mass exodus.

Is there any way we can measure what we should be paid? Or is there a tool or an independent body that can review our wage compared to what we do?
