'Test for testosterone in erectile dysfunction'

GPs and nurses have been urged to initiate routine testosterone testing in all patients presenting with erectile dysfunction (ED), according to guidelines in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.
The guidelines, written by the British Society for Sexual Medicine, highlight that testosterone deficiency syndrome is a treatable cause of ED.
Up to 37 per cent of men with ED have testosterone deficiency syndrome.
Dr David Edwards, GP, sexual dysfunction specialist and secretary of the British Society for Sexual Medicine, said: ‘Testosterone deficiency syndrome is an easily treated cause of ED and not enough GPs are diagnosing the problem.'
