Poole Night Doctor is the first such service in the UK to offer a private out-of-hours service for subscribing customers.
The company, based in Poole, Dorset, says on its website: ‘The NHS tries to respond to your call within the hour and visit within six hours. We aim to respond to your call within 10 minutes and visit within 30 minutes.’
GPs will be available between 7pm and 7am 365 days a year.
The company also claims there will be no nurses or non-medical telephone operators -whichever night doctor takes the patient’s initial call then sets off on a home visit.
Bournemouth and Poole PCT were unavailable for comment but were reportedly unaware of Poole Night Doctor’s service until last week.
