The error appears on page 14, table five. The dose of IV Salbutamol should read 250 micrograms (mcg) not 250 milligrams (mg) as stated. Giving the medicine at the incorrect dose could result in a serious, possibly fatal, consequence.
Asthma UK has written to all healthcare professionals alerting them to the error. Currently the pack has also been removed from the Asthma UK website. Only a small number of hard copies of the pack have been distributed and these have also been recalled.
Asthma UK is committed to supporting healthcare professionals in providing the best possible care for their patients. All Asthma UK's health information materials go through a rigorous clinical and editorial approvals process and the Emergency Asthma Care Pack was also piloted in four PCTs. Asthma UK is very concerned that this mistake slipped through the process and has already implemented a detailed review of all its procedures in order to prevent anything similar happening again.
Orders for a hard copy of the pack or CD-Rom version will be delayed as the necessary amendments are made. All those who received a CD-Rom will be sent a correct version and a correct version of the resource will be available to download as soon as possible at asthma.org.uk/emergencycare.Enter your main article text here.
