How the awards were decided
The GP Enterprise Awards were jointly organised by GP newspaper and the RCGP, and supported in 2010 by the MDU. This awards scheme is uniquely concerned with publicising ideas from grassroots practices that can easily be replicated by other GPs to improve their working lives.

Thanks to all of those practices that entered - you made the judging a very difficult but very rewarding experience. The only downside was that we were not able to make the Risk Management award this year, having decided that no single entry was able to meet all of the judging criteria.

Many thanks to those GPs and lay representatives who freely gave their time and expertise to the judging process. The judges were: Dr Has Joshi, joint vice-chairman of the RCGP; Louise Cox of the RCGP's Patient Partnership Group; Dr Mike Devlin, Yorkshire GP and head of the advisory department at the MDU; Dr Paula Hensler, medical editor of Haymarket Medical Media and editor of the MIMS Specialist Journals; Colin Cooper, editor-in-chief of Haymarket Medical Media.

All these are excellent candidates for the top award, and it is difficult to decide which is the most deserving.

It's fantastic that some people have not looked necessarily at cost, but primarily at providing abetter service to their patients.
