Practice income protected in influenza pandemic

09-May-08

NHS Employers and the GPC have reached an agreement on the maintenance of the GMS contract across the UK in the event of an influenza pandemic.

The agreement ensures that should GP practices respond to a pandemic emergency they would not be disadvantaged if some or all routine GMS work needed to be suspended.

Their NHS income would be protected in line with the previous year's earning and any pre-agreed uplift.

Income protection will start as soon as a pandemic is declared nationally (UK alert levels 2 or 3) and would be reviewed every three months to ensure consistency and relevance.
