Urgent care best practice sought

The Primary Care Foundation has invited GPs to tell it about their best work.

The DoH has commissioned the foundation to review best practice in urgent care. Practices are invited to submit details of innovative ways to improve access and treatment.

'Attention has been mainly on diverting patients from A&E and hospital care,' said foundation head Dr David Carson. 'We want to look at how patients can be identified and treated earlier in general practice.'

Lord Darzi's review proposed for the NHS East of England a series of urgent care units staffed by GPs to reduce A&E admissions by 50 per cent.
